IDP “Humanitarian” Crisis in Pakistan

With the military offensive in the Northern Areas of Pakistan (Swat, Dir, Buner and adjacent locations) in full swing, countless innocent civilians are suffering and are being displaced from their homes.

It is estimated that around 500,000 people will be displaced. The Swat Crisis has been termed as the largest humanitarian and displacement crisis in recent times. Whether you support the military operation or not, these Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) need your help.

We at SARelief have compiled a list of organization accepting online donations in support of the IDP’s. Your immediate support is requested. To learn more please visit http://sarelief.com/2009/05/13/idpcrisispakistan/. In addition, thanks to the efforts of Sabahat Ashraf (ifaqeer) we have a Wiki Page setup for the crisis.

You can support either monetarily or help coordinate the relief effort. One area we could use your help is in information gathering and clearing. If you’re interested email idpcrisispakistan@sarelief.com or join the SARelief listserv at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sa_relief.
